Kelo Decision Five Years Ago Today
Today marks the fifth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's attack on private property rights in the Kelo vs. New London decision.
Susette Kelo, the homeowner involved in the case, was a guest of the Mackinac Center at an Issues & Ideas forum on the topic in 2009.
Patrick J. Wright, director of the Mackinac Center Legal Foundation, has written extensively on private property rights, including here, here and here.

In the wake of the Kelo decision several states, including Michigan, passed laws to protect private property rights against government takings for economic development purposes. Voters in November 2006 approved the measure with 80 percent support.
